Access To Child Care During COVID-19

The Martin-Pitt Partnership for Children is aware that many parents and caregivers, especially those who the state classifies as essential employees, are struggling with access to child care services during this critical time. Our staff members are part of the team of NC Child Care Resource and Referral Specialists who are manning the statewide child care referral hotline. If you need information about other services provided by our organization, please email us at martinpitt@mppfc.org or kmahaffy@mppfc.org and we will respond as soon as possible. The following is a statement by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Child Development and Early Education.

Access to Care

The State of North Carolina is urging all families who can keep their children at home, with a responsible adult, to do so. Emergency and first responders and critical workers needing referrals to child care programs that are open and operating for children ages birth to 12 should call the statewide toll-free number listed below for assistance:

1-888-600-1685
(Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

We are targetting the following for child care referrals:

  • Emergency and first responders
  • Hospital staff
  • Nursing and adult group home staff
  • Frontline health care providers
  • Child care program staff
  • Food service staff
  • Families of children who are homeless, receiving child welfare services, and/or in unstable or unsafe living arrangements
  • Others who are working to keep North Carolinians safe and healthy

Please note: Effective April 1st, the only licensed child care programs that are allowed to operate in North Carolina are those which have agreed to meet additional health, safety, and other requirements specified by the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) and have been specifically authorized by DCDEE to remain open in April and May of  2020.

Supplies For Child Care Providers

In addition to serving as a referral center for essential employees, we are also aware that many child care providers are in need of supplies in order to continue to operate safely. If you are a child care facility in Martin or Pitt County and are in need of essential supplies, please email smonk@mppfc.org or tchamberlain@mppfc.org and someone will contact you as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, our access to supplies relies primarily on donations. If you would like to make a donation, please email aparmelee@mppfc.org. In addition to donations, we are also working with local businesses to assist child care providers in purchasing the supplies that they need.

Thank you so much for your patience during this time as we work to #FlattenTheCurve. Please STAY HOME and do your part!
