Partnership Program Receives National Recognition

Greenville, NC — Martin-Pitt Partnership for Children is proud to announce its Parents As Teachers (PAT) program was recently recognized as a Blue Ribbon Affiliate by the Parents as Teachers National Center. This recognition acknowledges the Partnership’s dedication to providing the highest quality support possible to local parents and families with children birth through age five.

“The Partnership’s Parents As Teachers Program is honored to have been recognized for our hard work and dedication to ensuring the success of local children and their families,” said Sharon Cooper, executive director of the Martin-Pitt Partnership for Children.

The Parents As Teachers program provides support to local families through one-on-one home visits and group activities aimed at meeting children’s developmental milestones and ensuring overall family success. By equipping parents with knowledge and information on community resources, parent educators help families foster their child’s positive intellectual growth, language development, motor skills, and social development to help ensure success in kindergarten and beyond.

About Blue Ribbon Affiliates

The Blue Ribbon Affiliate evaluation is a comprehensive self-study and review process that certifies programs are meeting or exceeding the PAT Essential Requirements, along with at least 75 of the 100 Quality Standards. The evaluation is based on the national program’s Quality Endorsement and Improvement Process. This assessment works to ensure affiliate programs meet or exceed the rigorous standards set forth by the Parents as Teachers model.

“I was so excited when we received the email stating our affiliate was awarded the Blue Ribbon Affiliate certification that I literally screamed for joy,” said Dorienne Jones, supervisor of the Parents As Teachers program at the Partnership. “Our staff strives to serve the families throughout our community by partnering with parents and families to ensure they are the empowered teachers their children need them to be. We provide them with the tools, resources and child development knowledge to ensure their child is prepared for kindergarten by delivering personalized in-home visits focusing on parent-child interaction, development centered parenting, and family well-being. I am very proud to say Martin-Pitt Partnership for Children’s Parents as Teachers Program is now recognized as an exemplary Blue Ribbon Affiliate. We will continuously be committed to delivering high-quality services to children and their families while positively impacting our community.”

The Partnership has seen a rise in families interested in joining its Parents As Teachers program in recent years and is proud to have increased the number of Parent Educators employed at the Partnership as of 2019. During the 2018-2019 fiscal year, the Parents As Teachers program served 35 families with 42 children in Martin and Pitt Counties.

“Home visiting programs such as Parents As Teachers not only focus on the parent-child relationship but the family’s success as a whole,” said Cooper. “When we support the families in Martin and Pitt Counties, we are one step closer to achieving our vision of a bright future for every child in our community.”
