Photovoice Project by the United Way and Building Hope Community Life Center- 4/19/13

Thanks to Faulkner & Associates, the United Way of Pitt County, Building Hope Community Life Center and Third Street Community Center are hosting a Voices of Hope – Photovoice photography exhibit.  Photovoice is an innovative program that encourages participants to share information about their community through photography.  This project will provide a window into the experiences of Building Hope Community Life Center youth.

Each participant was given a digital camera and taught basic photography skills.  They were instructed to take pictures of the world around them and then write a few sentences about why the pictures they took represent something special.  At first, the participants submitted superficial photos and narratives, but after a couple of weeks, they began to understand the purpose of the project and have come up with an inspiring perspective of the world.

The Photovoice exhibit is free and open to the public.  Photos and narratives will be exhibited throughout Pitt County starting with Third Street Community Center on Friday April 19th from 6pm-9pm

We invite you to meet the youth and see their exhibit on Friday April 19th at Third Street Community Center.  (Please feel free to share this announcement and  attached flyer with your contacts.)
